Creating New Opportunities For Customers: How AC Fabrication Became A Premiere Construction And Agricultural Equipment Manufacturing Company

A Farm On A Hill - AC Fabrication Agricultural Equipment Suppliers

AC Fabrication and Assembly Solutions launched earlier this year as a joint venture between two world-class metalworking giants: Arrow Off-Road and The CTD Group. Unlike many joint ventures motivated by financial reasons, AC Fabrication was created as a strategic move to open up new opportunities for our customers to get their off-road parts and equipment faster, easier, and more cost-effectively through a single company.

In this month’s blog, we tell the compelling growth stories of Arrow Off-Road and The CTD Group and what they bring to our new joint venture.

Arrow Off-Road: The Merging Of Two Machining And Fabrication Powerhouses

Arrow Off-Road, a division of Arrow Machine and Fabrication Group, was created in 2023 by acquiring and merging two world-class off-road fabricated parts and equipment suppliers: CGL Manufacturing Inc. and the OEM Manufacturing division of Steelcraft Inc.

CGL Manufacturing was launched in 1977 as a manual machining facility in Guelph, Canada, growing from three engineers to over 300 craftspeople across 2 manufacturing facilities in Canada and China. Its specialties included the assembly, machining, fabrication, and painting of powertrain and structural components, with a scalability that allowed them to take on complex projects for leading blue chip firms in agriculture, construction, defense, energy, forestry, heavy truck, material handling, mining, and rail.

In 2017, CGL won the John Deere Construction Forestry Supplier of the Year award, further cementing the company’s stellar reputation in our industry.

Steelcraft’s OEM Manufacturing division was part of Steelcraft Inc., a design, engineering, and customized metal fabrication solution provider launched in 1923. Steelcraft brings over 100 years of experience as a leading fabrication and assembly solution provider to global OEMs in the chemical, commercial, construction, defense, energy, industrial, mining, and water treatment industries.

In 2023, as part of Arrow Off-Road, Steelcraft won the prestigious Grand Partner Award at the 2023 Komatsu America Midori Kai Supplier Conference.

The formation of Arrow Off-Road marks the coming together of these two leading entities who share a tradition of adapting to market changes, embracing new technology, creating lasting partnerships, and investing in their people, customers, and communities. The division is now a globally recognized leader in the off-road metalworking space.

The CTD Group: World-Class Construction And Agricultural Equipment Suppliers

The CTD Group’s roots in construction and agricultural equipment go back to 1947, when Canadian Tool & Die was launched in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the epicenter of Canada’s heartland.

This innovative, family-owned company started its long success story by maintaining rigid quality standards in all phases of producing industrial-strength hubs, spindles, wheels, hitches, and welded hydraulic cylinders to agricultural, construction, mining, and oil & gas OEMs.

With an approach to business that combined recruiting and treating the best-skilled talent, adopting new technology, and prioritizing the needs of its customers, Canadian Tool & Die grew into one of the world’s most reliable construction and agricultural equipment suppliers.

In 1990, Canadian Tool & Die became the flagship company of The CTD Group when Integra Castings came on board, specializing in producing gray and ductile iron castings. This acquisition added melting, molding, and curing a wide variety of materials to The CTD Group’s long list of capabilities.

The CTD Group expanded further in 2005 with the creation of CTD Contracting. This division provides custom commercial, residential and industrial renovations. This team of general contractors and project managers focus on supporting complex projects with skill, experience, and expertise to meet all requirements and timelines.

In 2007, The CTD Group acquired CTD MachineWorks as a dedicated custom machining division. This acquisition added 50,000 square feet to The CTD Group’s 100,000 square feet of production workspace, increasing its production capability to provide custom machining solutions and supporting sub-services such as painting, coatings, plating, and heat-treating.

The CTD Group was honoured to be named one of the Top 25 Employers in Manitoba in 2010.

When people think of metalworking, many typical images come to mind: men using hammers to strike at steel blocks, iron being smelted into steel, and large trucks transporting raw goods from mines to production facilities. While these images aren’t wholly inaccurate, they don’t represent the true picture of the modern metalworking facility. Our workforce is more diverse than ever.
Metalworking has long been associated with new technology that helps keep our industry moving forward and in lockstep with consumer demand. Innovations such as CNC machining and waterjet cutting tools have revolutionized productivity on the production floor, but the introduction of robotics is transforming metal fabrication like nothing before it.
One of our motivations for launching AC Fabrication and Assembly Solutions earlier this year was to offer global OEMs something our industry had never seen: a one-stop shop for quality end-to-end off-road agriculture and construction equipment solutions. Traditionally, our customers would have to engage with multiple suppliers to design, build, assemble, and deliver their products. However, our approach to production provides manufacturers with multiple opportunities to improve efficiency, save money, and increase profits. Here are some of the key benefits of using our one-stop supply solution
